A PEEP into my childhood memories...
Image Retrieved from Kong Rui Jia
Rationale: I had portrayed the lego toy that is in the aeroplane to be me. As kids, we are often fascinated by things. Thus, for me, when i was small, i was fascinated by the rubik's cube. Curiousity gave in. And can be seen from the pictures, i gave chase after the rubik's cube. And along the way, i learnt alot of things as i explored these interesting surroundings that the rubik's cube has brought me to. I had alot of fun. And being a child is to have fun while exploring new things! As these were just all my childhood memories. i decided to have a pinhole effect in my photograph. A peep into my childhood memories. =) Revive those memories! I have also worked with the tone - serpia because i believe it will create a nostalgic feeling for my photographs.
p.s: rationale is still quite the same as the rationale that is posted in ideas development 05.the only difference is the explanation of the pinhole effect in my photograph. =D "Peep into my childhood memories" also, i have only worked with only one photograph because i am still currently unwell. still very sick. Thus, i hope you guys would understand. no worries! it would also be this style that i would be applying on if i were to complete on my other photographs. i chose to work on this above photograph because if you were to ask me where were the places that i had most of my childhood fun when i was a kid, i had to say that all my childhood fun came from HDB blocks. all the catching and hiding. all the police and thief chasing. =D
AND also, plenty thanks to shirlyn for her help and also for her inspiring idea that has helped improved my work!
haha. and well, i have to say that my inspiration for this piece would come from my chosen designer Peter Blake's design belief - getting his inspirations from his own collection of toys and miniature characters. I have in no doubt gotten inspiration for this piece of work from my own collection of toys, lego and my rubik's cube. =)) When i first took out my toys - Lego & Rubik's cube, for this piece of work, there were alot of memories that were in my mind. memories of me playing with my lego toy, memories of me fascinated by the Rubik's cube that i would even skip my dinner just to solve the puzzle. thus, in simpler words, i am inspired by the memories that these toys have given me to start work on this piece of design! i believe its just like the way Peter Blake own collection of toys has inspired him to kick-start any of his major works. =D

PSST! there are new suggestions from shirlyn! haha. okokay. i will work on them and then post up my final image in my next post. =D

hello people!
another idea strucked me while i was walking past a soccer field! i was inspired by a group of boys playing soccer. there was this particular boy who ran all around just to chase the ball. even though it was tiring, the boy seemed to enjoy himself very much! he laughed and laughed and laughed! then i thought: "why not i portrayed the boy as the lego character. and the ball is would be the rubik's cube that i would include in my photographs!" it would be interesting ahh! the presence of the rubik's cube in my photographs would add definitely add some depth to my photographs. my rationale is still the same: the same old me in the shoes of that lego character, flying about in my aeroplane, looking for adventures and challenges as i flew. But however, the difference this time round is that i am now being led my the rubik's cube, which i had very great interest in when i was a kid! as we all know, kids are often fascinated by things. for me personally, i had great interest in the rubik's cube! thus, i gave chase to the rubik's cub in my aeroplane and as i flew about in my aeroplane, i would encounter different adventures and challenges along the way. I BELIEVE these adventures and challenges are what children would experience when they are growing up. YES! this is it! i am working towards this idea. will start posting the photographs up asap. so stay tuned!
stay tuned.

hi guys! after some thinking over, i have decided there shall be a slight change in my delivery style: this time round, i am not just shooting photographs of my toys in interesting angles that best bring out the mood. i am going to shoot photographs of my toys in interesting angles that best bring out the joy that i had when i was a kid! thus, in simpler terms, i have decided to include myself in the picture. okay. back to the topic. in this piece, i have decided to place myself in the shoes of the lego character that is in the lego aeroplane. (peter blake's design belief: getting inspirations from his collection of toys) my rationale for this piece is the fun and challenges that i encountered as i fly from places to places in my own aeroplane. (my design style: shooting these pictures in interesting angles to best bring out the mood) the places where i fly are places of randomness. this would explain the thrill and the challenges i would encounter when i was growing up. what do you guys think? hmm. i am still developing my ideas! but i know i am getting there. i know i on the right track. i will see how to implement my other toy- rubik cube into the picture. well, will get back to you guys soon. meanwhile enjoy!

okay people! after that consultation session with shirlyn, i realised that it is time to bring my lego characters out for a walk, which was one of my favourite pasttime! when i was a KID, i loved to bring my lego toys out to the playground and play with them! =) heehee. okay. what i wanted to portray here is the same joy and fun that lego characters can have as i had. Even though they might appeared dwarf to the giant slides and the monkey bar, it wont stop them from having fun. BEING YOUNG is to have fun! In other words, what i wanted to portray here is that one's limitation is himself/herself. To linked very closely with my design style - to shoot in an interesting way that could best bring out the mood, i tried out all the possible ways of shooting my lego characters in the most interesting way that were possible. However, to me personally, i felt that this idea was rather boring and plain. with only lego characters. hai. zzzZzz. Nvm, its ok. i am still developing my ideas. I am sure I would come out with even better ideas in my next posting. meanwhile, enjoy!

Great Ideas. Presentation is wrong.

alamak. after consultation with shirlyn, it was demoralising for me i supposed. she told me that my ideas were great, but my ways of presentation are wrong. i had to agree with her. as could be seen from my previous entries, haha, my images were mostly graphics and not photographs. and i believe it have clash with my design style. my design style is "to take photographs ..." and not with images. well, even though i had put in considerable amount of time in creating that imaeg and yet it was rejected, i was not really disappointed lar. at least i was stopped halfway. wah. if i were to create my final assignment and i was told that my ideas were wrong, hahaha, that one really can go die liao. anyway, I will brainstorm for more different ideas. never say die! =D i will be back with better ideas! so, stay tuned!

With credits from the movie 300 and kudos to the one who invented LEGOS (http://www.lego.com/)

Hello! This is my initial idea for my final. as my art direction has stated: to shoot my own collection of toys in angles that would best bring out the joy/mood. In this piece, i had decided to leave out my other toy - Rubik's cube as i felt that it does not really connect with the theme this piece. the mood that i wanted to portray for this piece were linked to this movie 300 which i watched not long ago. my rationale for this piece is that even though these LEGO characters might come from different backgrounds and different LEGO sets, the fact that they are made as LEGO characters stand fixed. i want to convey the mood of loyalty. i am still developing on my ideas as this is only my first initial idea. hmmm, will get back to you guys soon!

direction for final assignment & my childhood toys

as i have mentioned earlier on, my design style is simply taking photographs of children in an angle that best brings out the mood. however, after consultation with shirlyn, i thought to myself, it is definitely impossible to shoot my own collection of CHILDREN? cause if i were to fuse Peter Blake's design belief - getting his inspirations from his own collections of toys and miniature cartoon characters. i definitely have no such collection. so i have decided to find objects and things that are closely related to children. AND i found it! toys are often related and closely related to children! hmmm. therefore i have decided the direction that i am heading for, for the final assignment.

I am intending to shoot my own collection of toys (conincide with Peter Blake's design belief) in angles that would best bring out the joy/mood (conincide with my design style).

And, here are two toys which i have very fond memories for when i was a kid:

Kudos to the creator of Rubik's Cube =D
Here is one of the toy which I have collected for a long time. HAHA. i am not too sure what is the name of this toy is called.. something cubism is it? or cube? or cuby? sounds like a art movement? cubism.. AH! i know! its called the rubik's cube! invented by a smart guy called Erno Rubik. (here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubik%27s_Cube check it out =D!) anyway, i love to play with this toy when i was young. argh! but i only love to play with it only after i have turned it MY WAY! some people ah. disturb me last time, go anyhow turn the cube. then i dont know how to turn back. took me a such a looooooooooong time to get it back to the original pieces. anyway, why do i love this toy so much? ah! i think this toy is a challenge! =D dont you think so? its a challenge just to get the correct colours together.something it would take up to days just to get the correct colours together. troublesome? nope. i wouldnt think so.
i think it has helped to train me to be determined and to persevered in the design world. =)

kudos to the creator of legos! =) for more reference: visit http://www.lego.com/

Here is another toy that i especially love to play with when I was a kid! =D LEGO!
I have kept them for a long time because they meant alot to mean when I was a kid.
I love lego alot! BUT lego were expensive. or rather, lego is still expensive now. one box of lego toys could cost me up to $90+. as a kid, where to find that kind of money last time? LOL. So often when i am bored, I would take my lego toys out and play with them. dismantle everything, then build them up from scratch. haha! i personally believe lego toys help to train my mind to be focused. it allowed me to stay determined and focused till i have finished building what was in my mind. COOL!

my design style

Images retrieved from Kong Rui Jia

after going through my own portfolio and after discussion with shirlyn, i finally realised my design style. i realised that i love to take photographs. and my photograhs always revolve around children. i always try to capture them in an interesting angle that best brings out the mood. now you might ask, why children? i personally feel that children give out this sense of happiness and joy, which us as teenagers and adults have not experienced for a long time. To put it in other words, my design style is simply taking photographs of children in an angle that best brings out the mood.
